What is the Small Balance Force Out Service?
It is an automated service that simplifies small balance distributions for terminated participants by identifying eligible participants, delivering required notifications, managing compliance documentation, obtaining sponsor approvals, and coordinating IRA transfers, where applicable.

Is this service required?
No. The service is optional, but small balance force outs are typically required under your plan document. This service helps ensure those requirements are met efficiently.

Is there a cost to the plan?
As a benefit to our plan sponsors, TRA will not be passing on any costs from Plan Rollouts. There is no fee to the plan sponsor for this service.

Are there any participant fees?
Yes. If a participant’s balance is forced out, standard participant distribution fees apply, consistent with your plan’s current fee structure with TRA.

How often does this happen?
The frequency of force-outs can range from quarterly to annually, dependent upon the size of the plan and volume of terminated participants with qualifying balances.

Do I still have control?
Yes. Before each force‑out:
- You will receive a summary for review.
- You must digitally approve the force‑out, unless you utilize TRA’s 3(16) services
- You may remove any participant you do not want included.
